The Lord filled me up and tipped me over, showing me how desperately I needed him at the age of 11. That saving moment until I was 17, my faith was like the tide of the ocean. Stagnant with no growth. No established relationship with my heavenly father. I was like a piece of molding clay. Wherever you threw me, I could fit. Whether that was a Godly crowd or Worldly, it didn’t matter. My faith was dependent on others.
During my senior year, the Lord demanded my obedience. He allowed me to experience the destruction of my life, to burn myself. I have never made so many mistakes or been so low. Feeling alone and impossible to fix, I was so lost. I claimed to be a Christian, but my private life was barren of any fruit. I was a fraud, a modern Pharisee.
But then, The Lord sent my best friend back into my life. He told her words that changed my trajectory. Words of hope and of forgiveness. He gave me a second option and called me to him with open arms and unrelenting love.
Then he brought me to camp. Those two weeks taught me the biggest lesson of my life: forgiveness, the blood of the Church. Running first through Christ, then through us to show to everyone else. That forgiveness freed me from my burdens and showed me that my struggles were because of suppressed bitterness. I didn’t possess the ability to forgive. The power to forgive was gifted by God because he knew I couldn’t do it on my own. He stepped in and helped me.
After that summer, my faith exploded. God put me through the kiln and solidified me as his faithful servant. I have seen God work through me in ways I don’t deserve to witness. My testimony is woven with valleys of heartbreak and mountains of joy that allow me to connect with just about anyone. I understand them, and through that, I can show them where the only place of joy can be found.
My decision to eventually get baptized was to share that story of life change. To tell everyone that God will do anything to have them. To open their heart and start their life with him. It's the best decision anyone could ever make. I love everyone I meet, but it is my duty to share that there is One God, One Savior who loves everyone more than any man, and that is Jesus Christ.
